Christmas Craft Ideas…

Christmas card with decals and rose pink craft glitter.

We love the idea of getting crafty over the festive season. Turn the heating on, get a cuppa and get stuck into a new project. Take a look at some of our Christmas crafts to get you inspired for December.

Simple Reindeer Food – We love the idea of making up our own reindeer food to leave out for Rudolph on Christmas Eve. You can make up your own recipes and we add a little bit of edible glitter to ours of course 😉 . We love this free printable from How To Home.

Hand-made Christmas Cards – This is such a fun idea, well in theory – don’t make it too stressful for yourself. We love these ready made decals you can stick on. We love pastel coloured cards at Christmas, definitely a change from the usual colours. Hobbycraft have really good tutorials on how to make Christmas cards.

Paper Plate Snowman – A great one for the kids. Stick two paper plates together and then they can decorate them however they like. We like the idea of using old wrapping paper for the scarf or the buttons and you could even use a real carrot for a nose.

Mason Jar Tea Light Holder – Or empty jar would make a perfect tea light holder for your Christmas table. We use some Mod Podge on the inside of the jar and then shake some glitter around the inside to create a glittery frosted look.

Gift Tags – You can make your own gift tags from something as simple as brown craft card and some glitter. We like cutting some card out in a Christmas tree shape, hole punching the corner and covering in gold glitter. Glitter Decorations – We got these MDF stars to dot around our Christmas Dinner table, we used our different metallic glitters to make them really sparkle. You could even use them as place settings.

Glittered Centrepieces – Get some MDF Letters, it could be your family name for a special touch and glitter them to place in the middle of your table, finish them off with a ribbon trim for a luxe touch.

Make your own Christmas Eve Plate – Kids love leaving Father Christmas a treat, it would be a really fun Christmas Eve craft with your little ones. You can buy lots of dishwasher safe pens, pair that with a plain white plate and you can create whatever design you like. We love this one from Lovingly Crafted

Salt Dough Ornaments – We love this idea, such a good keepsake to go on the tree for years to come. Get the kids to press their hands into your salt dough and cover in glitter like these ones from The Best Ideas For Kids.

Open glitter filled baubles – We love these open glass baubles from Hobbycraft, we have filled ours with bottle brush trees and our White Christmas Tinsel Glitter. You can fix the glitter down with glue but we have left ours loose for a freshly fallen snow effect.

Do you have any favourite Christmas crafts you like to do?

Autumn Craft Ideas…

We are so in the mood for Autumn here at Crafty HQ and we have collected 5 of our favourite craft ideas for this time of year.

  1. Glittered pine cones – Collect all shapes and sizes from your Autumn walks, grab some glue and throw some glitter on them. We love these ones we made with our green, red and gold glitter. Perfect for your Christmas tree or Autumn home decor.

  1. Pumpkin Apple Stamps – A brilliant one for kids, cut a large apple in half and use them to create pumpkin shapes. Once the orange paint is dry, they can make whatever scary or smiley faces they like with black paint.

  1. Painted Acorns – Like the pine cones, grab some acorns on your travels. We love the idea of painting them in pastel colours and using them as decor for the house.

  1. Glittered pumpkins – We got some foam pumpkin decorations from HobbyCraft and just used some simple PVA and our glitter to makes these beauties.

  1. Leaf Sun catchers – We love this idea for the kids to have a go at. Cut out the centre of a paper plate and fill it with tracing paper, simply glue some leaves to the tracing paper part of the plate for the beautiful autumn colours to catch the light, hang with some ribbon.

We are totally in love with this season and there are so many cool crafts to be done. What are your favourite Autumn crafts?

Our Top 5 Craft Items…

We all have our favourite craft items, whether you are a paper crafter, crotcheter, sewer, embroiderer or a bit of an all rounder and willing to give most things a go. You have your go to items on your desk and these are ours.

1. Glitter – Obvs! We use glitter all day every day, we have the most super sparkly product so it’s so fun and inspiring to work with from glittering Easter eggs for spring decor or jazzing up our summer flip flops we are here for all the glitter.

2. Mod Podge – we use an obscene amount of this stuff here. One of our favourites is the dishwasher safe glue, it really works well for glittering glasses and tumblers.

3.Paintbrushes and foam brushes – We have a lot of paintbrushes and foam brushed, mainly for glue application; we usually get our brushes from places like Pound Shops, Hobby Craft and our local craft supplies shop.

4. Vinyl Gloves – Gloves are so important when working with glitter, not only protecting your hands from glitter and glue but at CG we advocate a dry cleaning process when it comes to disposing of glitter so we don’t want any on our hands that can be washed down the drain.

5. Spare paper and card – We do a lot of our crafts over sheets of card and paper, to protect our furniture but more importantly so we can save any excess glitter, so whatever falls on the paper when we are doing a particular craft we can pop it back in the bag or jar.

What are your favourite craft items to use? Let us know, we love hearing from you.
